RNA virus I love

RNA viruses are basically simple. They have only four to ten genes. Even then, they cause severe troubles in the world. This is the reason why I love them. I don’t know how many people know virology. How many people can distinguish between virus and bacteria? Who believes antibiotics effective for viral diseases? Here, I am going to introduce the virus I love.

RNA virus can synthesize RNA by RNA. This is very interesting. Because RNA is vulnerable, RNA virus is also vulnerable. Because of the vulnerability, we are in trouble for the appearance of mutated viruses. Because RNA polymerase, the machinery of viral replication, is very inferior, RNA viruses frequently mistake. The mistake causes the mutated RNA genome. RNA genome is the life of viruses. Many RNA viruses can live even in the case of mutated life. Sometimes the mutations cause the effective growth of viruses. Unfortunately progressed viruses are often violent against the host animals including human being. Therefore we should always prepare for the appearance of violent viruses. One of the most important preparation is, I think, to study the polymerase. The polymerase is considered to be the origin of viral violence. I have a dream. One day, we will control the system of RNA polymerization by hand of a virologist.
