Transmission of trained immunity and heterologous resistance to infections across generations

An evidence of intergenerational inheritance of immune traits linked to epigenetic modifications has been shown in mice. The progeny of a mouse father who has overcome an infection showed resistant against the heterologous bacterial infections. The sperm DNA methylation patterns showed differences linked to immune gene loci, which may contribute to the intergenerational inheritance of immune traits.
