Booking a hotel in America

I booked a hotel close to the research institute where I will work in America, for the purpose of visiting my next laboratory before starting working. I visit there soon after a meeting in America this July.
I selected one among several hotels that were introduced by the boss of the next workplace. I expected that there is little public transportation at the town, and therefore I determined a hotel where I can arrive by walking from the research institute. I booked it by using my credit card in Japan, in the homepage of the hotel.
The price was higher than I had expected. It was twofold of the price of a hotel in Tokyo where I lodged sometimes. I don’t know the system concerning a service charge. I may find the way to set the price cheaper after I will live in America. When I talked with my senior who had been to America, he said that my hotel was cheap in America. Although I have thought Tokyo one of the most expensive cities, it seems to be untrue regarding the price of hotels.
