Increased mortality in community-tested cases of SARS-CoV-2 lineage B.1.1.7

SARS-CoV-2 B.1.1.7 is a variant detected in the UK in Sep 2020. This strain spread to worldwide, which is demonstrated to be more transmissible than pre-existing variants. In this report, the risk of death for 55-69 year-old male increases from 0.6% to 0.9% by the infection of the UK strain B.1.1.7 when it was compared with non-B.1.1.7 strains. B.1.1.7 is more transmissible and  causes more severe illness than pre-existing SARS-CoV-2.
