COVID-19 mRNA vaccine induced antibody responses against three SARS-CoV-2 variants

The sera of second-dose BNT162b2 mRNA-vaccinated individuals effectively neutralized the SARS-CoV-2 variants with D614G substitution and B.1.1.7 UK variant, whereas the neutralization of B.1.1.351 South Africa variant was five-fold reduced. However, the vaccinated sera showed neutralization titers of> 20 for the B.1.1351 variant, indicating that some protection can be expected. It was shown that the vaccine-induced neutralization titers exceeded those of COVID-19 recovered patients.
