First laboratory confirmation and sequencing of Zaire ebolavirus in Uganda following two independent introductions of cases from the 10th Ebola Outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, June 2019

In response to the outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Ugandan Ministry of Health initiated a national Ebola virus disease surveillance for the individuals who had crossed the border from DRC into Uganda. For all individuals, RT-PCR test for ebolavirus, marburgvirus, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus and Rift Valley fever virus was performed. Four people had been confirmed to be positive for Zaire ebolavirus, which was the first case in the Uganda. Next generation sequencing and phylogenetic analysis demonstrated that these cases are derived from two different time points and different clades.
