We usually use Sf21 cells for protein expression experiments using baculovirus. The Sf21 cell is an insect cell line that is derived from the ovary of Spodoptera frugiperda, which is called army worm. Baculovirus having an inserted gene encoding a protein under polyhedrin promotor can synthesize the protein in virus infected Sf21. We purify this protein by affinity column purification method, and then such protein is used for several experiments including enzymatic activity, antibody generation and so on.
I have many plans of experiments using Sf21, whereas the growth speed of Sf21 is not so quick. Therefore, I should wait for its growth day by day.
