The efficacy of mRNA vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 infection was evaluated using mouse and nonhuman primate infection models. mRNA encoding the receptor binding domain of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein was encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles for the efficient delivery. The protective effect of mRNA vaccine against viral infection was confirmed by an experimental model using laboratory strain mice and mouse-adapted SARS-CoV-2. The immunogenicity of the mRNA vaccine was also confirmed by using cynomolgus macaques. This mRNA vaccine is stable at room temperature for at least 1 week.
