Proteomics of SARS-CoV-2-infected host cells reveals therapy targets

Quantitative proteomics of SARS-CoV-2 infected cells was determined by using an infection model with Caco-2 cells, a cell line based on human intestinal epithelium. It was revealed that the central cellular pathways such as translation, splicing, carbon metabolism, protein homeostasis and nucleic acid metabolism are modufied by viral infection. Small-molecule inhibitors that target these cellular pathways prevented viral propagation in cells.
