SARS-CoV-2 uses a multipronged strategy to impede host protein synthesis

SARS-CoV-2 infection induces global reduction in mRNA translation. This infection also causes cytosolic cellular mRNA degradation, resulting in the preferential existence of viral transcripts in cellular mRNA pool. Moreover, translation of newly transcribed cellular mRNA in response to SARS-CoV-2 infection is impaired by the inhibition of nuclear mRNA export.
