Serial passage of SARS-CoV-2 Wuhan strain in BALB/c mouse lung resulted in the generation of a mouse adapted SARS-CoV-2 strain. The lethal infection with interstitial pneumonia was caused by this adapted viral infection at a dose of 1 x 10^5 PFU / mouse. Two mutations (Q493K and Q498H) rendered the spike protein to obtain stronger affinity to mouse ACE2 receptor.
