Ribosome-profiling reveals restricted post transcriptional expression of antiviral cytokines and transcription factors during SARS-CoV-2 infection

Transcriptional analysis of SARS-CoV-2 infected human lung cell line Calu-3 revealed that multiple immune-related genes are up-regulated. However, a ribosome-profiling analysis demonstrated that numerous transcription factors and antiviral cytokine genes are restricted at the post-transcriptional level. This early phase restriction of antiviral genes may be involved in the strong viral growth and immune dysregulation observed in SARS-CoV-2 infection.
