Golden Syrian hamsters inoculated with SARS-CoV-2 early circulating strain showed marked weight loss immediately after inoculation, but tended to begin to recover after 7 days postinfection. At 7 days postinfection, few viral load was observed in the lung, whereas massive necrosis as well as inflammatory response characterized by the interstitial infiltration of macrophage and hyperplasia of type II alveolar epithelium were dominant.
