Transcriptomic signatures induced by the Ebola virus vaccine rVSVΔG-ZEBOV-GP in adult cohorts in Europe, Africa and North America: a molecular biomarker study

Total 354 healthy adult volunteers were vaccinated with a recombinant vesicular stomatitis virus vector vaccine expressing Zaire Ebola virus Glycoprotein (rVSVΔG-ZEBOV-GP) in Geneva, USA, Gabon and Kenya. The longitudinal transcriptomic analysis of whole blood sample was performed to identify the genes associated with the vaccination. The most differentially expressed genes that were up-regulated following vaccination were type I and II interferon-related genes and myeloid cell-associated markers. In contrast, T cell, natural killer cell and cytotoxicity-associated genes were down-regulated.
